NUR-144: Pharmacological Therapies II

This course offers an advanced study of the role of the nurse in the safe and effective administration of medications.  This course is an introductory study to pharmacotherapeutics, including drug classifications and clinical implications for clients.  It contains an introduction to the basic concepts of pharmacology related to drug administration.  The course facilitates the use of the nursing process to assist in meeting the needs of patients receiving pharmacotherapy.  This course also emphasizes critical thinking techniques to effectively, accurately and safely calculate dosages of  medications. It includes reading, interpreting and solving calculation problems encountered in the preparation of medication. Learners will review basic math skills and systems of measurement for calculating dosages of oral; powdered and parenteral; pediatric and adult weight–based; and, intravenous medications using dimensional analysis. Titrations and safe dose ranges will also be introduced in this course.

Admission to the ADN program, NUR-111 or NUR-201
